  1. Transforming Theology

  1. Transforming Theology is a course in systematic theology (the organized presentation of Christian teaching subject by subject, rather than book by book of the Bible) that seeks to fuel both the intellect and the intuition, the “mind” and the “heart” with the goal of personal transformation. The work has three unifying themes which surface throughout: (1) The doctrine of the Trinity as it reveals relationship and community of self-giving outwardly-moving love as central to the being of God and humanity in His image; (2) Eschatology, the doctrine of the Christian hope, as the fountainhead of Christian theology, the framework and narrative within which the specific objects of theology are situated; (3) The symbolism and imagery of our hearts as the context by which intellectual truths can be intuitively internalized,  impacting our emotions and forming our identity within the people of God in dynamic relationship Him.

  3. It is often asserted and understood that we are justified (reconciled/saved) by the death of     Jesus. Such is true and should well be asserted. However, there is a peculiar, less understood strand of thought in Paul where Jesus was “raised to life for our justification” (Romans 4:25) and we are “saved through his life” (Romans 5:10). This begins to make more sense when the cross, resurrection and salvation are understood less exclusively in terms of an abstract legal substitutionary metaphor and more as concrete eschatological events in the unfolding drama of God’s historical purposes to restore Israel, humanity and the entire earth in the age to come. The cross marks the end of death and the end of the “Present Evil Age” while the Resurrection inaugurates the “Age to Come” when all things are made new. As we live in an odd overlap of these two ages, justification is not simply the pronouncement of forgiveness, but the manifestation of the faithfulness of God whereby we and all things are made right in every respect. The justification we enjoy now by faith is an advanced declaration and “down-payment” of what will be fully ours and will flood the earth when Jesus returns.
