What a terrific resource your site has been! I am living in Costa Rica and I feel like I'm in seminary... pouring through NT Wright's "Challenge of Jesus" and gaining ground on the historical/vocational perspective. I now realize how critical this teaching is as we "quicken the Day of His return." In short, I've gone from understanding how Mt. 24 and 25 to understanding Mt. 23-25. I'd love to hear more on the Trinitarian/relational view of Christ and how that fits into a historical/vocational. Keep up the great work of encouraging the saints worldwide!

Jonathan - as far as that quote goes I am mostly going off of Isaiah 40-55, where there is an open conflict between God and the idols, in which God's god-ness is based on his ability to save, first in the exodus ("the former things") but also in the future new exodus ("the new thing"). The need to assert God's god-ness implies that certainty was not present in the people of God. If such certainty existed, reassurances would not have been needed.

Is. 43.11 “I, even I, am the LORD, And there is no savior besides Me.
12 “It is I who have declared and saved and proclaimed, And there was no strange god among you; So you are My witnesses,” declares the LORD, “And I am God.
13 “Even from eternity I am He, And there is none who can deliver out of My hand; I act and who can reverse it?”

Is. 45.22 “Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth; For I am God, and there is no other.
Is. 46.9 “Remember the former things long past, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me.

This concept is also developed in the writings of Wolfhart Pannenberg, esp. in the first volume of his Systematic Theology.

"Until this future and final action, according to the Biblical record, God’s faithfulness and even his deity are openly questionable. It is only the historical revelation of God that will bring this questionable-ness to an end."

Oh my this has to be one of the most mind blowing statements! This series on the 'New Exodus' has been pretty amazing... can you point to some books and such that develop these points more? I have been looking around but not quite finding anything.

Thanks for the posts!

When taking your class, this was one of the more impacting truths I walked away with. Could you comment on John 8:33 briefly?
